Abstract

————————————

Despitethe great promise of Li–S batteries, many challenges need to be addressedbefore they can find practical applications. In this talk, firstly I willbriefly introduce the background of rechargeable Li-S batteries, then I willtalk about strategies to improve the performance of Li-S batteries fromphysical confinement, chemical binding and battery configuration design.Catalyzing capability of metals and compounds in promoting the conversion ofsulfur species, and high energy LixSi/graphene-sulfurfull cell will also be included.

Speaker's Bio

————————————

Guangmin Zhoureceived his Ph.D degree from Institute of Metal Research, Chinese Academy of Sciencesin 2014 under the supervision of Prof. Hui-MingCheng & Prof. Feng Li, and then worked as a postdoc in UT Austin with Prof.Arumugam Manthiram for one year. After that, he wasa postdoc research fellow in the Department of Materials Science andEngineering at Stanford University with Prof. Yi Cui until now. Dr. Zhou’sresearch mainly focuses on energy-storage materials and devices. Dr. Zhou haspublished 90 articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals, and first-authored29 papers published in Nature Nanotechnology, Nature Communications (2), PNAS(2), Advanced Materials (4), etc. Additionally, he has authored 1 book chapter(≤Graphene Science Handbook≥), 1 book (Design, Fabrication and ElectrochemicalPerformance of Nanostructured Carbon Based Materials for High-EnergyLithium-Sulfur Batteries). His publications have been cited more than 14900times with an H-index of 49 (Google Scholar). He was honored as a “2018 HighlyCited Researcher” in materials science field by ClarivateAnalytics, has won Energy Storage Materials Young Scientist Award (2018),Carbon Journal Prize (2015), excellent Doctorate Theses Award of ChineseAcademy of Sciences (CAS, 2015), and Special Prize of President Scholarship forPostgraduate Students of CAS (2014).
