At 7am Beijing time, the meeting officially started. The AAC meeting discussed talent introduction for TBSI and reviewed the introducing applications and title promotion applications of the third batch of full-time TBSI teachers . The meeting was held in an active atmosphere where the participating AAC members from Tsinghua University and UC Berkeley exchanged in-depth views on talent introduction.

Since its establishment, TBSI has actively promoted the introduction of international high-level talents, engaged in employment of world-class academic talents across the globe, established full-time teaching and research series teacher team and carried out teaching and scientific research activities. Under AAC mechanism, teachers of Tsinghua University and UC Berkeley have vigorously promoted the recruitment of global high-level talents, and imposed strict control on academic level of the talents so as to ensure the introduced high-level talents are in line with the standards of Tsinghua University and UC Berkeley. It is expected that by 2020, the faculty of TBSI will reach 100 people, including 40 full-time teaching and research series teachers and 30 part-time teachers evenly from Tsinghua University and UC Berkeley respectively.

The results of the fifth AAC meeting will indicate the direction for TBSI’s introduction of international high-level talents. Previously, through two rounds of global recruitment of high-level full-time teachers, TBSI has accumulated rich experience in material selection, AAC approval, and on-site campus interviews (including academic lectures, trial teaching, round-table meeting, board discussion and students discussion), in a way to comprehensively investigate the candidates’ academic, communicating, and teaching abilities. At present, TBSI has successfully introduced academicians Huiming Cheng and Peter E. LOBIE, who are leaders in their respective fields.

In the future, TBSI will further play its role of “condensation nucleus” to accumulate experience of introducing talents for Tsinghua University Shenzhen International Campus which is under construction preparation, and explore the road of innovation for the introduction of international talents.
