Introduction of Tsinghua-Berkeley Shenzhen Institute Industrial Advisory Board

The Tsinghua-Berkeley Shenzhen Institute (TBSI) Industrial Advisory Board (IAB) is established to help TBSI fulfill its mission.  The IAB is comprised of 20~30 leaders in global companies from a variety of industry sectors having overlapped interests with TBSI centers in environmental sciences and new energy technology, data science and information technology, and precision medicine and healthcare. 
 

The responsibilities of IAB include:

Strengthening the ties between TBSI and industry 

• Advising TBSI leadership on strategic alliances with industry sectors;

• Helping with broad research agendas

 (e.g. through the creation of joint laboratories, collaborative research projects and visiting industry fellows); 

• Fostering entrepreneurship by facilitating connections between TBSI researchers, venture capitalists, and other industry visionaries; 

• Helping develop new educational programs, including industry internship programs for master’s and doctoral students; mentorship for master’s cap stone projects; ideas and initiatives for global on-line learning, executive education,

and industrial course modules.

• Helping to establish funding models to provide sustainable research resources; 

• Helping to establish targeted fellowships, endowed chairs, and other forms of support to help attract the very best students and faculty.


 

Time commitment of IAB members: 

There will be 2 meetings per year rotating between Shenzhen and Berkeley; members are encouraged to attend the meetings in person.  However, we will also make it possible to attend via tele presence.

 

Term: 

The term is three years.  Additional 3-year terms may be extended upon mutual agreement.

 

The Mission of TBSI:

• Establish an ecosystem for transformational technology research addressing global challenges.

• Build trans-disciplinary innovative research platforms and graduate curricula.

• Foster future entrepreneurs and leaders in science and technology.
