Dr. Wanrong Tang from The Chinese University of Hong Kong was invited by Assistant Professor Scott Moura to visit Tsinghua-Berkeley Shenzhen Institute (TBSI) and delivers a lecture entitled " Online Charging Scheduling Algorithms of Electric Vehicles in Smart Grid" at the lecture hall of TBSI at 11:00 on July 3, 2017.
On the lecture, Dr. Wanrong Tang pointed out that As an environment-friendly substitute for conventional fuel-powered vehicles, Electric Vehicles (EVs) and their components have been widely developed and deployed worldwide. The large-scale integration of EVs into power grid brings both challenges and opportunities to the system performance. Evidently, uncontrolled EV charging could lead to inefficient power network operation or even security issues. This has spurred on enormous research interest in designing charging coordination mechanisms. A key design challenge here lies in the lack of complete knowledge of data in the future. Indeed, the knowledge of future data significantly impacts the design of efficient charging control algorithms. In this talk, I am going to introduce two online EV charging scheduling algorithms that deal with different degrees of uncertainty and randomness of future data. In particular, I will talk about how to explore some unique features of the charging behaviors of EVs to improve the general online algorithms for better performance and lower complexity. I will also show the performance of two online EV charging scheduling algorithms in both theoretic analysis and simulations.
Dr. Wanrong Tang received her B.Eng. degree with honors from the Yingcai Honors College, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China in 2011, and her Ph.D. degree from the Information Engineering Department, The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2016. She is currently a research fellow with Information Engineering Department at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. She will join École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) as a Postdoc in Sept. 2017. Her current research interests include online scheduling, learning theory and stochastic optimization in smart grid, intelligent transportation network and smart city. She received the Best Paper Award of IEEE SmartGridComm 2013 and a Student Travel Grant from the IEEE Communication Society in 2013.
