Description of research:
Professor Wei Sun mainly engaged in basic and applied research in the field of leading international biological manufacturing and biological 3D printing related cross frontier, and exploring cross innovation in modern engineering and manufacturing science materials, information, biology, and medicine in many disciplines. Main research includes cell/organ 3D printing and in vitro biological function structure system building, bionic design and manufacturing, regenerative medicine model, biological/pathological/pharmacological model and new medicine detection model, cells/tissues/organs chip manufacturing based on cell, biological machinery equipment and living systems manufacturing, research and manufacturing of advanced biological manufacturing equipment.
Professor Wei Sun gets scientific research funding from U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF), U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), U.S. department of defense (DoD), U.S. army research institute (ARL) and Johnson & Johnson. In charge of projects from natural science foundation of China, 863 plan project, national major projects for new drug research and development, pilot plan pre-research of space science research center, academy of sciences, more than 10 projects from the country and enterprises. In 2014, Professor Sun led Tsinghua team to build in vitro 3D tumor models for the first time with the application of 3D printing technology, and it was interviewed and broadcasted by BBC, also reported by more than 50 Medias. In 2016, 3D printing of embryonic stem cells technology of the team was honored by SOHU as one of the five progresses in 3D printing technology. Altogether, Professor Sun has published more than 450 papers and meeting abstracts, more than 250 times of invited special reports, and more than 50 patents.
