TBSI holds the 2017 International Forum on Graphene

On April 10, the 2017 International Forum on Graphene was held at Graduate School at Shenzhen, Tsinghua University. It was jointly organized by China Association for Science & Technology and Shenzhen Science Technology & Innovation Commission. The Forum attracted participation of over 600 delegations from China, the U.S., Europe, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore etc.


 


Hu Zhang, Member of the Municipal Party Standing Committee, the Executive Vice-Mayor of Shenzhen, was on the opening ceremony and gave his respective speech. Academician Huiming Cheng, Core-PI of Tsinghua-Berkeley Shenzhen Institute, and Professor Feiyu Kang, Co-Director of Tsinghua-Berkeley Shenzhen Institute, Dean of Graduate School at Shenzhen, Tsinghua University, were co-chairmen of the forum.

Andre Geim, physics professor at the University of Manchester, who won the Nobel Prize in Physics 2010, recalled research experience of his team in the past decade. Besides, he recognized the supportive role of Shenzhen Government to advance the development of graphene industry, including fundamental scientific work. Later, Professor Geim presented a report entitled “Recent Progress on 2D Crystals and their Heterostructures”.

About 50 researchers and entrepreneurs working in the frontlines of the respective fields were invited to give guest lectures on their latest research achievements. They would discuss the new strategies to produce graphene, how to measure its properties, as well as theories underlying the production and properties of graphene.


 


During the three-day meeting, participants could exchange ideas on 6 parallel sessions and 45 themed presentations which covered topics as “Controlled Fabrication and Mass Production of Graphene and Other Graphene-based Nanocarbons”, “Synthesis and Properties of Other Two-dimensional Materials beyond Graphene”, “Advanced Applications of Graphene, Carbon Nanotubes and Other Two-dimensional Materials”, and “Commercialization and Applications of Graphene and Other Two-dimensional Materials”.
